God and Nature Spring 2021
By John S. Redkoles
Wildlife photography has taught me some valuable life lessons: nothing is guaranteed and expect the unexpected. One day, I entered the woods with high hopes of photographing trophy whitetail bucks.
While sitting on the forest floor concealed by a massive fallen tree, a faint rustling noise drew my attention to a small group of leaves directly in front of me. Within seconds, this chipmunk emerged from the ground and jumped to the top of the tree that hid me.

Days later, on returning to the same spot, this magnificent buck graced my presence.
On another outing I saw a single young deer meandering through rows of cornstalks. She eventually stopped within two rows from where I was hiding, and I could see her startled expression.
Although we’re never certain of what will confront us next, we can be certain that God’s presence is upon us. Let us claim this truth that is painted across the pages of God’s word. It’s a guarantee from our Creator, Redeemer, and Sustainer!
Whatever the circumstance or uncertainty you may face, know that God is right there. I often recall the words of the Lord to Joshua 1:9 as God summoned him to lead his people into the Promised Land. I hereby command you: Be strong and courageous; do not be frightened or dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.
