God and Nature Spring 2019
Lux Dei
By Ann Gauger
This video, Lux Dei, which means Light of God, is not intended as a representation of the events in Genesis 1. Rather, it is the first part of a reflection on creation as a whole. It's part of a larger piece that will be called (HESED), the Hebrew word for loving kindness, one of three words for mercy in the Hebrew scriptures. God out of his loving kindness created the universe, and it reveals his glory, but that was not enough for God—his love was not content.
The overall arc of the piece is how God reveals his glory in and through creation, and his relationship with his creatures. We see his glory in the heavens, in life, in the things he has made, and most particularly in the gifts he has given to us. But even more than his glory, he reveals his mercy, his lovingkindness, in his dealings with his creation.
