My birthday is May 1, and this year it occurred after weeks of “sheltering in place,” a directive to reduce the spread of COVID-19. Since no restaurants were open, we celebrated at home. My younger daughter gave me Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge: The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook.
Our family had vacationed in Florida in January and loved the new Galaxy’s Edge area at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Now we have the opportunity to recreate some of the recipes we had there, plus many more. For our family, making and eating the Star Wars foods has been a way to reminisce on the wonderful days of our vacation, before the worry and stress of the pandemic. Several of the meals have been made entirely by my daughters, some have been a family activity, and a few I have made by myself. Most have been incredibly delicious. I’d love to tell you about them!

Mustafarian Lava Buns are a sweet red-colored bread coated with a crunchy black-crackled exterior. They would be excellent as hamburger buns, but we had them along with Rootleaf Stew (also from the cookbook).

Gormaanda’s Glowblue Noodles (with Golden Lichen Tuile on the side) is a fancy (and blue) form of alfredo that immediately became a family favorite and is quick enough to prepare on a weeknight. The blue noodles are made by steeping Butterfly Pea Tea Bags, then cooking rice noodles in the blue tea water.

The cookbook contains a number of desserts and fun beverages like Photon Fizzle, which has tapioca pearls to add a fun twist.

Braised Shaak Roast was a delicious Sunday dinner option that I know we will make again.

Huttese Slime Pods are gnocchi and cannellini beans coated with a green sauce made from spinach, parmesan cheese, avocado, lime juice, and a few other ingredients that give it a bright, fresh flavor. Another tasty and fairly healthy weeknight meal.
Because we want to be the hands and feet of Jesus, we are making double portions of some recipes that we can freeze and bring to our church’s freezer meal ministry. We are aware that many are struggling right now, and we want to help. Making extra meals is one thing we can do to bless others.
The cookbook not only has fantastic recipes but weaves stories from the Star Wars movie series throughout the pages. From Fried Endorian Tip-Yip to Ronto Wraps to Zoochberry Surprise, our family has used this extra time together to try out new recipes, build tasty memories, and to bless our community. We’re looking forward to Nerf Kebabs tonight!
